BEYOND THE BLOOMS.
A behind the scenes look at our wedding flower process.
Being a wedding florist isn’t just about putting pretty flowers in vases, it’s part logistics, part artistry, and part structural engineering. If you’ve ever wondered what actually happens behind the scenes before the first aisle walk, here is a peek into the madness and magic of wedding prep day.
Long before the first bloom is trimmed or the alarm goes off on the morning of the big day, the real magic has already been building for months. Behind every bouquet and arch installation is a journey that starts with sitting down together to listen to a couple’s vision, looking through color palettes, and exploring every detail during design consultations. From those initial conversations, we craft a fully personalized quote and detailed visual proposal tailored entirely to their style, story, and venue. By the time wedding day arrives, every single stem has been thoughtfully planned so that the final arrangements feel like a seamless reflection of their love story.
Once the design plan is set, the focus shifts to sourcing the absolute highest quality blooms. Direct from Holland's finest growers, our flowers arrive fresh and vibrant within 48 hours of purchase. The moment they enter the workshop, the crucial conditioning process begins: every single stem is cut at an angle, lower leaves are stripped away to keep the water pristine, and each variety is sorted into squeaky clean buckets. They are then given a long, deep drink of nutrient rich water to hydrate and open up perfectly, ensuring every petal looks its absolute best when build day arrives
The day prior to the wedding, our morning starts in the workshop surrounded by the crisp, earthy scent of hundreds of stems. Everything was conditioned and a few days ago, but today is assembly day. Tools of the trade are lined up: including floral snips, waterproof tape, chicken wire, ribbon shears, and our trusty glue gun!
Our first focus is the handheld arrangements. Personal flowers including the bridal bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets, buttonholes, and corsages. The Bridal bouquet is the headline act. Every stem is placed intentionally, rotating the bouquet to make sure it looks stunning from every angle. Once balanced, it’s wrapped tightly in silk ribbon, pinned, and placed back in fresh water.
By late morning, the floor is covered in eucalyptus leaves and stem offcuts. Table centers are assembled, whether that's low, sprawling meadow bowls or grand focal urns.
Then comes the highest stakes puzzle of the day….packing the van! Transporting live, delicate arrangements is pure nerves. Everything is boxed, strapped, braced with towels, and packed with buckets of water so nothing slides on the drive to the venue. Please be patient of the white van in front of you driving at 10 miles per hour..it may be a wedding florist!!
On the morning of the wedding we are up before the sun and with a stong coffe in hand, we get to work on the finishing touches. Buttonholes are are up first. Delicate but super fun work. Each flower gets stripped, wired, taped, and misted before tucking away into the fridge ready for the big day. Then we move onto the glamerous wrist corsages, flower crowns and flower girl wands. Everything is packed between damp tissue to keep the flowers fresh on our journey to the venue.
Then it’s off to the venue! The clock starts ticking toward ceremony time. This is where the heavy lifting happens. We empty the van of all flowers, arrangenets, boquets and tools and head to install the ceremony and reception flowers. This can range from a full outdoor flower arch, to little bud vases and everything in between. The fresh flower corsages are placed on the wedding cake and all the final deatils are tripple checked by our team. We love how creative our clinets are and no two weddings are the same. Every stem is double checked to ensure it stays fresh and firm through the evening heat and dancing.
The bridal bouquet is delivered directly to the bride or wedding suite which is always the best moment of the day. Buttonholes and corsages are handed out anf flower crowns and wands are given to excited children. Seeing the immediate excitement when a couple views their flowers for the first timemakes every early morning worth it.
After a final sweep of the venue floor to clear away stray foliage, it’s back into the van. Hands are stained green, shoulders are aching, but the job is done and another couple is ready to walk down a flower filled aisle. Cleaning the buckets can wait until tomorrow!
