Bloom for Longer

The Simple Secret to Making Your Hand Tied Bouquet Last

There’s nothing quite like the joy of receiving a beautiful bouquet. The vibrant colours, the sweet fragrance... it instantly brightens any room. But that sinking feeling when they start to wilt after just a few days? We've all been there.

The good news is, a little bit of care can go a long way. The secret to a long-lasting bouquet isn't magic; it's just a few simple steps. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Remove all packaging. Unpack your flowers upon delivery. Remove all gift wrapping and take your flowers out of the water bag. Make sure you hang on to your flower food sachet.

2. Give Them a Fresh Drink (in a Clean Vase!) Your flowers are thirsty after their journey. Before you place them in a vase, make sure that vase is sparkling clean. A quick wash with soap and water can remove bacteria that would otherwise shorten your flowers' life. Fill it with cool, fresh water.

2. The 45-Degree Snip This is perhaps the most important step. Using a sharp knife or secateurs, trim at least an inch off the bottom of each stem at a 45-degree angle. This creates a larger surface area for the flowers to drink from. Avoid using scissors as they can crush the stem’s water channels.

3. Strip the Lower Leaves Leaves below the waterline will rot and contaminate the water with bacteria, which is the number one cause of early wilting. Take the time to carefully remove any foliage that would sit submerged in the vase.

4. Find the Perfect Spot Flowers are delicate. Keep them away from direct sunlight, heating vents, and ripening fruit (which releases ethylene gas that accelerates wilting). A cool, shady spot is best for your hand tied bouquet or arrangement. You can even place them in a cooler room at night to extend their life.

By following these simple steps, you'll be able to enjoy your beautiful bouquet for days, if not weeks, longer. After all, every petal deserves its time to shine.
